Sacrifice

“Think about the various roles you play in your life. If you had to give up all but one, which one would you keep?”

My roles are numerous: a student, a sister, a daughter, a friend, an RA (Resident Assistant), a writer, a small-grouper, a health advocate, a workout-enthusiast, and more that aren’t as significant as these.

I’d give them all up to stay as a child of God, a disciple of Jesus. My life wouldn’t consist of studying everyday or talking to residents or hugging friends…but maybe it would. Living life for Christ means bringing others to His Kingdom, however He sees fit for me to do. Listening to Him and trying my best to do as He says could still mean being a friend and showcasing His love or writing to draw others close to His truths.

“Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”

-Mark 10:15/Luke 18:17

In fact, I almost see being a follower of Christ my only role. All the other “roles” I play are because of Him and His plan. My dedication to God underpins all other aspects of my life, such as a student or authority figure. To put it blatantly, these roles would mean nothing if I didn’t have God as my source and reason.

“Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.”

-Proverbs 19:21

God created you! The way you smile at everyone is His way of showing love to those who need it. Your hard work in classes is His way of preparing you for the life that lies ahead. He has made you specifically for His glory; representing Him in a way only you can. He formed the fingers on your hands and the connections in your brain to accomplish the future career path He has laid down. No one else has your same combination of thoughts and actions. God has named you and you are His!

In conclusion, I would give up my life to follow Jesus and to stay strong in my faith. I would give up my role as a student, my dream as a teacher, to stay His. Of course, this would be extremely difficult, but He would give me the strength to persevere.

What one role would you stay as the rest of your life?
