“Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array. By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.” -Genesis 2:1-3
Just like Day 6, today was just meditation. Caroline emphasized receiving the words first, and then applying them to my personal life. Let the words soak in. She read Exodus 33:12-14, which discusses rest. The main character in Exodus is Moses, and he inquires God’s decisions. God ensures Moses rest and that God is always with him.
“12 Moses said to the Lord, “You have been telling me, ‘Lead these people,’ but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. You have said, ‘I know you by name and you have found favor with me.’ 13 If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you. Remember that this nation is your people.” 14 The Lord replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”” -Exodus 33:12-14
Caroline left a few minutes without any speech so we can truly reflect on God’s word. She now tells us to put ourselves in Moses’s place. Apply this teaching to our personal lives. This was a bit difficult for me at first. I found my life most applicable to God’s words to Moses in verse 14. Lately, I’ve been confused about my path in life. It’s not that there’s nothing I want to do, it’s that there’s too many things I want to do! I find myself easily bored and ready for something different. Basically, I’m impatient. I love that God says His presence will go with Moses. God is always with us, His Holy Spirit lingers in us.
As for rest, I applied it to myself in a mental way. My mind is constantly running, always planning, endlessly engaged in something. I need to rely on God to ease these thoughts and encircle them back to Him. He is the center of my world and things will go downhill without Him.
Caroline’s word choice today was perfect. She said things like, “Hear and receive. We’ll respond later.” “Allow whatever feelings, emotions, memories that arise, to arise. Allow yourself to be present for them.”
A lot of times, when feelings of sadness or anger come up, we tell ourselves no. We think we need to be happy all of the time. Instead of rejecting these feelings, ask yourself why you have these feelings. Dig deep and let God’s word transform you!
Find your rest in God today and every day.
